H. L. Hunley Replica

This event is on June 1, 2019

H. L. Hunley, often referred to as Hunley, was the only submarine in the Civil War to sink a ship – the Union USS Housatonic which had been on Union block-ade duty in Charleston, SC’s outer harbor on February 17, 1864. The nine sailors in the Confederate submarine died in their ship after their success due to problems with the submarine. The replica is a third of the size of the real Hunley which was located in 1995 and raised in 2000. The Kirby-Smith Camp #1209 in Jacksonville, FL is bringing the Hunley to the festival.
